Application
The Master in Mathematics in Bonn is a research-oriented degree requiring talent and ambition. It will bring the student to the forefront of knowledge in one of the major fields of mathematics.

- Admission

The students are selected based on the evaluation of their academic records, recommendations, and possibly an interview. A selection committee will make the decisions and notify the applicants shortly after the respective deadline.

The only way to apply is via the online application portal for graduate programs at the University of Bonn. This portal is closed outside the application period which starts about six weeks before the respective deadline.-
International applicants
You are an international applicant if your first academic degree was NOT completed in Germany.
It is possible to start your studies in the summer term, but we advise you to apply for starting in the winter term. If you submit your application for the winter term already before the January deadline you will receive an early decision. -
Domestic applicants
You are a domestic applicant if your first academic degree was completed in Germany.

If you apply to the Master's program in Mathematics you will need to send us all required documents as stated, attached to the online application form. Please submit your application only if it is complete. We will not be able to process incomplete applications. Please do not send any documents by e-mail or post after completing the online application.

The decision about your application does not depend on the date when you submit it.

Please apply in time even if you have not completed your graduation yet. In this case please upload your current transcript of records. You can be admitted for the winter term (starting in October) if your Bachelor studies will be finished before 30 September. You can be admitted for the summer term (starting in April) if you finish your Bachelor studies before 31 March. Once you are in Bonn, you will have to show us your Bachelor's degree certificate to prove your degree.

- Scholarships

Unlike institutions of higher education in other countries, German universities usually do not award grants as they do not have the necessary funding. However, a few scholarships are available from various national organisations for exceptionally qualified candidates.

- Tuition fees

Each semester students pay a semester fee ('Sozialbeitrag'). This enrolment fee includes free use of public transport and regional trains in the state North-Rhine-Westphalia. There are currently no further tuition fees ('Studiengebühren').
