Failed examinations

When are courses or even the Master examination failed?
Failing a module examination
  • A lecture course module examination is failed if you fail both exams.

  • A graduate seminar module examination is failed if the examiner grades the seminar as fail.

  • A practical training course module examination is failed if the examiner grades your work as fail.

Failed module examinations may be retried in a later semester. For graduate seminars and practical trainings, a retry always involves re-taking the whole module.

Failing the Master examination

A failed Master's thesis or Master's thesis seminar may each be retried once. If the retry of the Master's thesis or the retry of the Master's thesis seminar is failed, so is the Master examination. This means the unsuccessful end of your studies and prevents you from studying Mathematics in Germany again.
