Master Mathematics

Current information:

  • The postponed exams of the winter term 2019/20 have to some extent taken place via Zoom or in other forms but many are still pending. You can find the current planning schedule in the announcement of the examination dates.
  • The submission deadlines for all Master's theses have been extended by four weeks. BASIS still shows the original deadline, please add four weeks. If you need an extension beyond this please send a written request to the Examination Committee via [Email protection active, please enable JavaScript.].
  • If you wish to submit your thesis you can do it in the following ways:
    - Come personally to the window counter of the BaMa-office 0.004 on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., please wear a face mask.
    - Send it by ordinary mail. The submission date is the date of the postal stamp.
    Only if you cannot submit your thesis either way because you are abroad then please send the thesis as PDF together with the submission form to [Email protection active, please enable JavaScript.]. It is mandatory to also submit the printed copies but this can be done later.
  • The office hours of the Bachelor-Master Office are still suspended, with two exceptions:On Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. you can personally
    - submit your Master's thesis (see above) and
    - pick up your final certificate.
    Please come to the window of office 0.004 from outside and wear a face mask.
    In all other matters you are welcome to contact us via e-mail or phone with any questions and, especially, if you would like to make an appointment for a study counselling by phone
    with Dr. Kiesel.

The Master's program in Mathematics enables the student to proceed to the forefront of knowledge in one of the major fields of mathematics. The language of instruction is English. The programme has a standard duration of four terms (two years), ending with the "Master of Science" degree.


Mathematics CoverAdmission to the program requires a first academic degree in mathematics (e.g. a Bachelor's degree). The program can be started in either October or April. Please pay attention to the details of the application procedure. 

The language of the Master's study program is English.

Information for new master students

At the beginning of each term, there is an information talk for new master students where the study programme, the modules offered, the examination regulations, the mentoring programme, etc., are explained in detail.

In the summer term 2020, this talk will take place as Zoom web conference. In order to attend the conference you will need a device with internet access, microphone and camera. The Zoom software needs to be downloaded but it will not be necessary that you register an account. The event is scheduled for
