General information about the research week for high school students is available here, and specific details about the 2027 research week are available here. All high-school students in grade 10 or higher who are at least 14 years old (both at the time of the research week) are eligible to apply, not only from Germany but from countries around the world. Good English language skills are required; a good understanding of German is advantageous. All applicants will be notified by the end of September 2026 whether they have been selected for the research week. At this stage of the application now, only basic information relevant to the selection process is requested. If you receive a positive notification, additional information (such as allergies, food intolerances, dietary preferences, emergency contact number, etc.) will be requested for registration. You will then be asked to pay the participation fee of 100 euros, and you may apply for a exemption from this fee in the case of a financial hardship. Participation is only guaranteed if the fee is paid by the end of October or if an exemption is granted. Applicants may apply below for three research projects in order of priority (with Priority 1 being the highest priority). You can also apply for fewer projects. Under the section “Extracurricular experience with mathematics,” in addition to attending math seminars and training courses (such as regular participation in the Bonn Math Club), you are encouraged to provide detailed information about any achievements and prizes in math competitions and any early-stage studies in mathematics. You may also mention experiences and achievements in related fields such as computer science or physics, and these will also be taken into account. If in doubt, all these experiences and achievements carry more weight in the evaluation than your school grades. The letter of motivation should be no longer than one A4 page and should describe your reasons for participating in the research week in general, as well as your specific choice of projects. It must be uploaded as a single PDF file together with the most recent transcript.
