a W2-Professorship for Mathematics in Medical Sciences
This is a temporary appointment for a period of five years.
The professorship
The professorship is situated in mathematics at the University of Bonn and participates in the excellence cluster Hausdorff Center for Mathematics (HCM) and in the Bonn Center for Mathematical Life Sciences. We seek a candidate who establishes an internationally visible research group in the field of mathematical modeling in medical sciences and who closely cooperates with the cluster ImmunoSensation3 and the Faculty of Medicine. The position is endowed with a postdoc position as well as travel and guest funds during the initial period. In addition, the holder of the position can apply for further competitive funding within HCM.
The candidate
Candidates should have international research experience and should have demonstrated scientific independence with relevant publications. Applicants should have a strong research background at the interface of applied mathematics and theoretical life sciences, and a proven record and interest in mathematical modeling in close collaboration with clinical researchers or experimental researchers in life sciences. The candidate will have a reduced teaching load. Contributions to our advanced teaching program are expected. German language skills are not required.
Research focus
We seek a candidate who investigates the efficient modeling of the complex processes in medical sciences and develops mathematical analysis of the resulting models. The range of possible topics includes - but is not limited to - stochastic modeling of biological processes and mathematical description of the dynamics of biological responses on the molecular, cell and systems level. We seek candidates who complement the existing research groups in the interdisciplinary research unit Mathematical Life Sciences and the Bonn Center for Mathematical Life Sciences.
The recruitment requirements are based on § 36 HG (NRW).
